When I need a little creative inspiration, I often turn to great works of art. I am especially drawn to the abstract expressionists of the post-War 1940’s – Picasso, Pollock, Rothko, Martha Graham…. So many of my favorite paintings come from this era.
Why not put an outfit together that evokes a similar vibe to some of these fabulous masterpieces?
Black, white and red is a timeless color combination. But unless you’re celebrating Christmas all year round, be sure to add some edgy variations – a vampy shade of red, a non-traditional shoe – to keep it chic.
I love the juxtaposition of the prim, high collar and long sleeves with coated, oxblood pants and rocker heels. It’s like the fashion equivalent of a mullet – business on top, party on bottom. And it’s all pulled together by this deconstructed pearl, rhinestone and cameo statement necklace. The look is subversive, yet playful and still appropriate for a client meeting.
