Black and White and Red all over….

When I need a little creative inspiration, I often turn to great works of art.  I am especially drawn to the abstract expressionists of the post-War 1940’s – Picasso, Pollock, Rothko, Martha Graham….  So many of my favorite paintings come from this era.

Why not put an outfit together that evokes a similar vibe to some of these fabulous masterpieces?

Black, white and red is a timeless color combination.  But unless you’re celebrating Christmas all year round, be sure to add some edgy variations – a vampy shade of red, a non-traditional shoe – to keep it chic.

I love the juxtaposition of the prim, high collar and long sleeves with coated, oxblood pants and rocker heels.  It’s like the fashion equivalent of a mullet – business on top, party on bottom.  And it’s all pulled together by this deconstructed pearl, rhinestone and cameo statement necklace.  The look is subversive, yet playful and still appropriate for a client meeting.
