Full Disclosure: Sometimes I workout in the morning and end up wearing my workout clothes for the rest of the day.
I’ve not been particularly shy about this confession on the blog. But what I may not have told you is that when I worked in an office during the day, I always secretly chided women who were still in their workout clothes in the afternoons. Had they worked out and then not showered? Were they still planning to get a late-afternoon workout in? Or did they just throw on their exercise gear because it was comfortable or they couldn’t think of anything else to wear?
Now I know the answer. At least, I know my answer. Some days, there just isn’t time to shower and change! Actually, that’s not quite true. Some days, it just isn’t a priority to shower and change.
Regardless of the reasons why, it happens and, frankly, I don’t feel particularly compelled to apologize for it. In fact, after investing in some upgraded workout wear at Athleta recently, I can honestly say I’m proud to sport these looks all day!
For one thing, both of these outfits are super comfortable and not as constricting as some of my running clothes are. Athleta’s “Unstinkable” technology, wicks away sweat and prevents me from smelling like I just worked out. And these styles sit very neatly at the cross-section of loungewear, streetwear, and workout wear, so I don’t have to feel embarrassed about wearing them long after my workout is over.
Another benefit? My kids are still young enough to want to play with me when their schedule allows for some unscheduled frolicking time. By the late afternoon, that’s often the last thing I feel like doing, but when I’m dressed for the part, it’s a little easier to jump in the game. I always feel fantastic when I do, too.
Whether enjoying a morning hike, a cross-training workout, or just hanging around one of my kids sports practices, these looks help me feel great and look like a mom who’s fit and on the go. And there’s definitely no shame in that.
